I want to note that with any brush, the most important thing to maintaining the quality of the brush is care. Don’t leave the brush in the water cup while painting, clean out paints after use, and storing brushes with bristles up will help them last longer. Both brands of beginner brushes have lasted me at least 1-2 years with good care. With that being said, my preferences are the natural bristle brushes due to durability, and paint and water retention.

These are primary colors that will allow you to mix a variety of color, they are the colors I use in my workshops. In my own personal practice I do use these color along with others because it allows me to create different paint palettes. If you are unsure as to what other colors to invest in, I highly recommend getting the Dot Card. The dot cards will enable you to sample all the colors so that you can pick and choose to your preference.
